MoBay’s Brazilian hero Correa happy with first goal
TUCKER, St James — Even if he is still learning about Jamaican club football and the Jamaican culture on a whole, Brazilian wing back Lucas Lima Correa understands what his second-half goal meant for Montego Bay United (MBU) in the slim 1-0 win over Cavalier SC in their Wray & Nephew Jamaica Premier League game played at Wespow Park on Sunday.
At the end of the 90 minutes, the first in front of his home crowd, the right back sank to his knees on the wet grass and stayed down for some minutes while his new teammates swarmed around him to celebrate a big win.
MBU had picked up a single point from their first two games but had failed to score a goal before Correa ended the drought at the 67th minute, after 247 minutes of goalless football.
It was MBU’s first victory over Cavalier SC since their return to the Premier League two seasons ago, and speaking to the Jamaica Observer through Head Coach Neider Dos Santos who translated for him, he said the three points were more important than his scoring.
“He said he felt really very happy with his supporters and how they cheered him on and also with the performance of the team that was able to bring the three points that was the most important than his performance alone,” Dos Santos said.
Correa is one of four Brazilians who joined MBU this season, three of whom played on Sunday, and he told the Jamaica Observer, through the translator, that he was “very happy and as a Brazilian he has to come here and display good football, he’s very happy that he got, along with the team, these three points for MoBay.”
The defender nodded home a corner taken by another Brazilian Jean Claudio Rios Ferreira in the 67th minute and minutes later he was back in defence, throwing his body into a block as Cavalier SC stormed back to seek the equaliser.
