Late registration rectified
Dear Claudienne,
I was born at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston, where I was registered and my mother given a pink slip. She later applied for my birth certificate but when she went to pick it up, she said that they told her that the place had burned down.
I have tried several times on my own to get a late registration. In 2007, the Registrar General Department (RGD) told me that the form search that would have to be done would cost $15,000. I paid for the search and in about 2007 the RGD told me that they did not find my records.
My grandmother had a friend working at the RGD and she suggested that I pay her to look about it for me. She said that she would give me someone else’s birth paper but I refused her offer. In February 2022, I again applied to the RGD for my birth certificate and paid $12,000. They told me that the process would take roughly six months. It is now way past the time frame I was given and based on their response it seems to me that they have not started the process and I will not be allowed to do a late registration.
I would really be grateful for your help on this matter.
MA
Dear MA,
Tell Claudienne has been in communication with the RGD and we note that they have contacted you. On October 18, 2023 the RGD told the column that they had explained to you that the certificate was “at the final stage of completion”.
The RGD said that on October 30, 2023 you were sent a text message that instructed you to collect the document at the RGD’s Kingston office.
We wish you all the best.
