Cambridge, Lilliput make winning start in Sandals Major League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Cambridge United and Lilliput Rovers made winning starts to their St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League season after beating Irwin United and Montego Bay Boys Club, respectively, on Sunday.
Cambridge United, a semi-finalists last season, recovered from an early goal to win 2-1 at Irwin High and handed Irwin United back-to-back losses while Lilliput Rovers were 3-0 winners over Montego Bay Boys Club as they won 2-1 at the UDC field.
The wins saw Cambridge United and Lilliput Rovers join defending champions Reggae Youths and Heights FC on three points each.
In another game on Sunday, Flanker FC and Granville United played out a 0-0 draw at Flanker.
At Irwin, the home team took the lead in the first minute through Detroy Reid but an own goal in the 32nd minute before Wayde Daley scored the winner in the 40th minute.
Montego Bay Boys Club, who lost all 12 games played last season, picked up where they left off beaten 3-0 by Lilliput Rovers with goals from Ricardo Mitchell in the fourth minute, Mario Leslie in the 28th minute and Tyrell Dixon in the 85th minute.
