Teacher finally receives overdue salary increase after 16 years of service
Dear Claudienne,
For 16 years I taught at a church basic school in Portland. During my tenure I was class teacher, senior teacher, canteen supervisor and block supervisor. In 2017, the names of some of the teachers were submitted to the Ministry of Education for an upgraded salary subsidy and my name was included in the submission.
Except for me, all the other staff members that had been recommended for the salary upgrade received it in 2020 No explanation was given for why my pay was not upgraded. I resigned from the job in 2022 and to date I have still not received the increase that was due to me since 2020.
On resigning I was requested to hand over my NCB card that I used to pick up my salary monthly. After I gave the principal the NCB card I did not receive my salary for more than two months. When I checked with the principal I was told to speak with the ministry.

On contacting the Ministry of Education, Tell Claudienne was advised to bring your concerns to the attention of the Early Childhood Commission (ECC). The ECC is responsible for the payment of subsidies to basic schools that are in compliance with the early childhood standards set by the commission.
