Barrett aiming to end year on high note

AFTER securing a double victory at Caymanas Park on Saturday, lightweight jockey Jordan Barrett is aiming to conclude the year on a high note at the Gregory Park-based facility.

Having ridden for the past seven years, Barrett guided Wilson and My Smokey to triumph in the second and third races, respectively, completing a swift double on the 10-race card over the weekend.

The 30-year-old jockey expressed his delight with the performance, emphasising that it had been a while since he had achieved a double at the racetrack. With these wins Barrett’s tally for the seasonis now at 17.

“I am feeling pretty happy about these two winners because I have been working hard for this, and I am just very happy that I was able to win two races,” said Barrett. “These were two pretty easy winners because I have ridden both horses before. I have ridden My Smokey a number of times and I have also ridden Wilson so I know them very well, and it was easy for me to pilot them home to victory,” he added.

The Clarendon native expressed his desire to secure more victories at Caymanas Park before the year concludes. “I know that I am getting back there because it has been a very long time since I have ridden two winners here. So, I just want to continue working hard, stay focused, listen to trainers, and also have manners with them at all times,” he said. Barrett mentioned that both victories have significantly boosted his confidence in the saddle, moving forward .

“This will help my confidence a lot to know that I can win a lot more races before the end of the year – and also for next year as well,” Barrett said. “I am just hoping that I will get the winning rides, and once these winning rides are coming then I am going to be successful in the saddle. I am fit and I am learning every day, so I just want to maintain this and work hard every day of the week,” he concluded.
