Worthy Park Estate diversifies portfolio with premium white overproof rum

Worthy Park Estate is introducing a premium white overproof rum as it moves to broaden its product range in response to changing preferences in the consumer market. Worthy Park Overproof Rum joins other brands, namely Worthy Park Select, Single Estate Reserve, 109, Rum Cream and Rum-Bar, which make up the Worthy Park Estate portfolio and offers an alternative to the flagship Rum-Bar in the overproof rum category while maintaining the premium standards of the collection.

The new addition was recently unveiled at the Jamaica Food and Drink Festival’s Worthy Experience, a rum tour and alfresco dinner held on the estate, at which Craig Nicholson, senior blender at Worthy Park, shed light on the new product.

“Worthy Park Overproof is partially derived from cane juice, where this lighter rum is skilfully blended with our molasses-based rums to achieve a crisper, more refined taste,” he revealed. “With an impressive 63 per cent alcohol content, it retains its strength while offering a delightful honey sweetness, making it a more approachable choice when compared to other white overproof rums on the market, which often boast bold and overpowering flavour profiles.”

In comparison to its counterparts, Worthy Park Overproof Rum offers consumers a well-rounded and sophisticated alternative, catering to those seeking a balanced and nuanced rum experience.

WEST…Worthy Park Overproof Rum will be distinguished by its premium presentation within elevated consumer spaces.

Tamika West, marketing manager at Worthy Park Estate, explained how the new product is responding to evolving trends among consumers.

“This new offering showcases our drive toward constant innovation, which not only expands the Jamaica rum offerings on the island but also internationally,” she explained. “The consumer’s evolution in rum education has benefited the rum’s acceptance thus far, as drinkers readily notice the difference in the flavour it brings to their elevated cocktail or simple mix.”

“There is so much more of a focus in the global rum community about identifying not only where rum is produced but where are the raw materials that make the rum from,” West continued. “The benefit of being a company that has a distillery, sugar factory, and cane fields is that we can be very genuine and authentic in creating a rum from grass to glass. The recent demand for rums made from cane juice, which is more common in the French islands, was also a reason why we thought it could be interesting to introduce a rum made using Jamaican cane juice for fermentation.”

Noting its collaboration with other local industry stakeholders, the executive revealed that Worthy Park Estate “processes cane from small farmers, while our molasses comes from our sugar factory, which is supplied with sugar cane from our farms.”

Tamika West, marketing manager at Worthy Park Estate.

West detailed that most of their rums are made from fermenting molasses, including other rums in their portfolio. As Nicholson pointed out, the Worthy Park Overproof Rum stands out by combining the fermentation of molasses and cane juice, resulting in a distinctive blend with crisp flavours. In the process of crafting a 100 per cent Jamaica rum, it abstains from incorporating artificial flavours or additives. This decision enables the genuine quality of its cane juice and the skills of the distillery and blending team to be evident in the authentic flavours and aromas of the product.

Highlighting the marketing strategy for the new brand, the marketing manager explained that while Rum-Bar White Overproof rum “is a traditional style of 100 per cent pot-still rum and enjoyed by a cross section of our society, Worthy Park Overproof Rum will be distinguished by its premium presentation within elevated consumer spaces.”

“White overproof rum is the rum of choice among most Jamaicans, so it was only a matter of time before we introduced a premium white overproof offering under the Worthy Park brand name,” West said.

The marketing manager related that feedback on the new offering is positive, with customers highlighting their enjoyment of the unique light flavours typical of an overproof rum. According to West, the use of a blend combining rum from fermented cane juice with molasses-based rum is not only unique to Jamaica but also to the rum industry. She added that customers who have tried it find it well balanced and suitable for a variety of cocktails and mixed drinks, appreciating its distinct aroma of floral, vegetal, and grassy notes that underscore the use of cane juice-based rum.

“The Worthy Park Overproof Rum is a testament to our commitment to tradition and innovation,” West said. “It’s a product of meticulous craftsmanship and reflects our relentless pursuit of excellence. We are thrilled to present this premium alternative to our consumers who appreciate the finer nuances of Jamaican rum.”
