Bromwell hat-trick leads Green Pond past Wadada in Sandals Major League
GREEN POND, St James — Green Pond SC scored their first-ever win in the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League, after coming from behind to beat Wadada United 3-2 in their rescheduled Zone A game played at Green Pond on Saturday.
Garth Bromwell led the team — made up of schoolboys — with a hat-trick in the final 23 minutes to overhaul the Wadada United team that was reduced to 10 men after Howard Mair was sent off in the 57th minute “for abusive language towards the referee,” according to the report from the match officials.
The win saw Green Pond improve to four points, same as third-placed Granville United, both having played three games. Wadada are still to earn a point.
Wadada, who are playing in the parish competition for the first time in two seasons after campaigning in the JFF Tier II league,, got off to a fast start after losing their first two games. They led 2-0 at half-time on Saturday thanks to a double from Navaldo Christie who scored in the 36th and 38th minutes.
Bromwell took over the game late as he halved the deficit in the 67th when he scored from the penalty spot. He brought them level in the 88th minute and then scored the winner in the 90th minute.
