Manning’s into semis of Rural Area U-14, U-16 tourneys
SAVANNA- LA-MAR, Westmoreland — Manning’s School qualified for the semi-finals of the ISSA/Burger King Rural Area Under-14 and Under-16 football competitions as the quarter-finals came to an end on Monday.
Manning’s School and Holmwood Technical High had two teams vying for spots in both competitions but the latter failed in their attempts to qualify in any of the semi-finals.
Rusea’s High will play Manning’s School in one semi-final on Friday while defending champions St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) and Clarendon College will meet in the other game.
In the Under-16 match Manning’s School will face BB Coke High in one game while Central High and Manchester High will meet in the other.
The winners will advance to the finals set for Tuesday, December 12, with the national finals set for Saturday, December 16.
Rusea’s High topped Group 1 of the Under-14 with a perfect record of three wins, after defeating Denbigh High 3-1 in Lucea.
STETHS finished as runners-up with six points when they beat Green Island 4-2 in Santa Cruz, winning back-to-back games after losing to Rusea’s in their opening quarter-final encounter.
Clarendon College topped Group 2 with seven points, beating Holmwood Technical 3-1 in their game, while Manning’s grabbed the other spot, drawing 1-1 with Glenmuir High to finish with three points.
Manning’s were, however, perfect in the Under 16, ending with nine points from three wins in Group 2 after edging Kemps Hill High 1-0 on Monday, while Manchester High took second place with six points by edging Maldon High 2-1.
Central High won Group 1 with seven points, beating Petersfield High 4-0 at Petersfield, while BB Coke rallied to snatch second place with four points following a 3-0 win over Holmwood Technical.
