After winning the Pick 3 Super Challenge Trophy and being chosen champion two-year-old last season, the Anthony Nunes-trained Legit Boss was expected to compete in the Classic series of races earlier this year, but she did not deliver.

After her below-average performances leading up to the Classics, Legit Boss was never entered to compete in any of the Triple Crown races. She raced through her conditions without any success.

Legit Boss effortlessly blew aside rivals in the War Zone Sprint Trophy feature on Saturday, December 9, 2023, in a performance that could be the start of something new in her career.

Going over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m), Legit Boss, with Raddesh Roman in the saddle, made one move to lead home rivals by a length and a half in a final time of 1:07.2. Awesome Anthony (Javaniel Patterson) was second with Sensational Move (Dane Dawkins) filling the third slot.

“It is always nice to win, but it is really nice to win for the owner here. After winning champion two-year-old filly last year, Legit Boss has just been a complete disaster as a three-year-old.

“She hasn’t gotten to where we had expected her to be, and we are so glad that he [the owner] has the patience to give us time with her,” Nunes told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.

“Legit Boss didn’t train on as a three-year-old; she has struggled through the summer with the heat, and all of that. She didn’t blossom as a three-year-old. You expect that when they move from two-year-olds to three-year-olds, they will physically improve, but she really didn’t.

“That’s what I felt bad about; the owner had invested in her, and we bought her to be a classic horse, and she really wasn’t.

“She is a sprinter, and that is what it is. We will see how far she will take us with sprinting. Well, she has to run with sprinting horses, and she will go up her grade, and we will see how she handles it,” Nunes further said.
