ON ANOTHER TRACK…
It’s not everyday that a champion athlete passes through One Pop Recording Studio in Kingston.
Shericka Jackson gave artistes and musicians there a big surprise with her recent visit.
The sprinter, gold medalist over 200 metres at this year’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, walked in on a recording session for singer Leroy Brown, led by legendary drummer Sly Dunbar.
Brown was doing the song Africa is Calling when Jackson entered the studio.
“Soon as I put the voice on, Sherica Jackson danced her way in the studio to meet Sly and the excitement began,” Brown told the Jamaica Observer.
Brown is backed on Africa is Calling by Dunbar, trumpeter Vivian Scott, keyboardist Paul “Wrongmove” Crosdale, and bassist Glen Browne. The song hears the veteran vocalist yearning for a return to the Motherland.
“(Singer) Winston Dias and I were talking about it (repatriation to Africa) and he was excited about the idea, so we shared the cost of producing it. Soon as I tapped my feet Sly arranged the drum track and we all went to work,” said Brown.
