Singer Sophia Brown brings cheer
A number of children with Down syndrome were given a treat on December 17 courtesy of Angel of The Hearts Foundation, an organisation operated by singer Sophia Brown.
The event was held for the second straight year at Hope Gardens in St Andrew.
Brown coordinated the treat with Jennifer Anglin of the Jamaica Down Syndrome Foundation.
She also donated $400,000 in gifts and funds to the event and that organisation, which provides care and educational awareness for children with Down syndrome and their parents.
“Most of my donations came from (American music distributors) Zojak World Wide, also from my team who didn’t just give their time but also donated to the event. For that I am grateful, because I think they understand how important it is to support the causes and become a part of the Jamaica Down Syndrome [Foundation] family as their organisation is in need of every support they can get,” Brown said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
Among the children at the Food For the Poor-supported treat was Heidi, Brown’s 13 year-old niece who also has Down syndrome. She inspired the artiste to get involved with the Jamaica Down Syndrome Foundation which has been in existence for 16 years.
Brown started recording music in 2007 and to date has released four albums.
