WATCH: ‘The car lift up like a plane’ – eyewitness recounts Negril bridge crash
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – A man who says he witnessed a Toyota Voxy plunge into a river in Negril, Westmoreland on Tuesday has likened the car accident to a plane crash.
The incident, which happened at 2:00am, left two passengers nursing injuries.

The alleged eyewitness, street vendor Lynval “Happy” Reid claimed that speeding was the cause of the accident.
“From the front end hit the soft shoulder, the car lift up like a plane, and came down in the river,” the man told Observer Online.
“Last Night me on the highway coming down and this car passed mi full rev, is like him a speed and brake. Him realise him speeding and can’t control it. Him didn’t make it across the bridge,” he recounted as he searched the crash site.
Meanwhile, Area Four commander for Little London and Negril Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Shaunjaye Mitchell said the driver of the vehicle was found at the hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
“We have since identified the driver and that person was taken to the hospital later on in the morning by another person,” Mitchell told Observer Online.
Mitchell is also urging the driver to report to the police once he is released.
“So, we are waiting [for] the driver to come to Negril Police station so we can further the investigations,” Mitchell advised.
The top lawman is also warning commuters who frequent that thoroughfare to be extremely cautious.
“We are advising pedestrians who use that bridge, because both sides of the bridge do have pedestrians walking, we are asking when you’re traversing that area to be particularly careful,” he urged.
