Trelawny Municipal Corporation pushing to add bus shed at Falmouth Transportation Centre
TRELAWNY, Jamaica— Mayor of Falmouth Councillor C Junior Gager has announced that plans are being fine-tuned to set up a bus shed at the Falmouth Transportation Centre, which was officially commissioned into operation on September 1, 2023.
Motorists and commuters have been complaining about the inadequate number of sheds at the facility to shelter from downpours.
But Gager has asked for a little more patience as the concern is being addressed.
“The only thing left to be accomplished at the transportation centre is the big bus shed that the buses can drive under. And we have given out that for design and the person is now designing and putting a cost to it,” Gager told Observer Online.
“And we must remember there are other bus sheds there but we don’t think they have the capacity to accommodate everybody if we are having a rain,” he added.
He cited that in response to the complaints of stakeholders, the Trelawny Municipal Corporation (TMC) recently completed a $15-million project which involved the paving of the grounds of the entire facility in a bid to prevent muddy underground conditions during rainfalls.
Gager, who is also chairman of the TMC, pointed out that in an effort to protect users from falling into drains that run across the facility, the property is currently being fenced.
The Falmouth mayor described the establishment of the transportation centre as a game-changer for the historic town which is now experiencing reduced vehicular congestion.
