Another winner for lady trainer Lydia Anglin
TRAINER Lydia Anglin continued to make her mark on the male-dominated sport of horse racing in Jamaica when she registered her third win of the season, and her fourth overall, on Saturday, February 17, 2024.
Anglin achieved her fourth success when Edina Marsh won the fifth race, a maiden condition race for native-bred five-year-olds and upward going six furlongs (1,200m).
Ridden by Tevin Foster, Edina Marsh broke off well at the start of the race and assumed the early lead ahead of Esuse Me Goodby (Devon A. Thomas) and Sir Ganga Jamuna (Romario Spencer). Going into the half-mile (800-metre) turn, Foster and Edina Marsh allowed Esuse Me Goodby to pick up the lead and carry the pace as it approached the distance.
Foster then asked Edina Marsh to pick up the pace and the five-year-old bay mare hit the front once again, coming into the lane. Edina Marsh won by 6½ lengths ahead of Sir Ganga Jamuna and Crafty Zella Zeen, in a time of 1:19.0 (24.2 x 49.4).
Anglin is now tied with both Kibbeisha Little and Keisha Lawrence on the all-time female list, all securing four wins apiece. Eileen Cliggott led that group with 976 winners, followed by Emma Chen (114 winners), Margaret Parchment (49 winners), Gloria Castillo (19 winners), Pauline Dwyer (12 winners), and Beverly Rhoden (12 winners).
