A quick double for Sabina
THE connections of Sabina are in high spirits after the six-year-old bay mare made it two wins in a row from as many starts this season, on Saturday, February 17, 2024.
Sabina’s victory came in a three-year-old and upward Optional Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) spread that also included native-bred six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and imported six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) at four furlongs (800m).
With Trevor Simpson riding for trainer Owen Sharpe, Sabina showed good speed at the off and disputed the lead with Chiney Music (Christopher Mamdeen),
Sensational Satin (Garfield Gordon), and Tequila Blue (Romario Spencer).
After the runners covered the first two furlongs (400m), Chiney Music emerged as the lone leader, with Sabina, Sensational Satin, and Tequila Blue chasing.
Inside the final furlong (100 m), Chiney Music failed to hold her gallop as Sabina came through to win by a length ahead of Tequila Blue. Chiney Music was third in a time of 50.1 (23.3).
