First artisan village to be opened in Falmouth
TRELAWNY, Jamaica-The Ministry of Tourism will be staging a soft opening of Jamaica’s first artisan village in the historic town of Falmouth in Trelawny on March 20.
According to Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett, the formal opening of the facility will take place in April.
Some 36 shops are ready for operation.
The village is established on lands, which have been donated by the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ), adjacent to the Falmouth Cruise Ship Port.
The facility will offer a range of options to visitors and provide products that would be desirable to high-end niche markets as well as those visitors seeking more simple reminders of Jamaica. Similar types of artisan villages can be found in Mexico, Colombia, parts of New Zealand and parts of the USA.
