KINGSTON, Jamaica – Newly-elected Mayor of Savanna-la-Mar, Danree Delancy along with the rest of the members of the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation, have elected Councillor Devon Thomas (Savanna-la-Mar Division) as the deputy mayor of Savanna-la-Mar.
Thomas, a longstanding member of the People’s National Party (PNP), has been councillor for the division for more than 23 years.
“I was nominated before and I declined. However, I believe the time come now for me to serve as there are a lot of things to be done in the township of Savanna-la-Mar. I am elated to have been selected by my comrades,” Thomas told Observer Online on Thursday afternoon.

Following the final count of ballots which ended last week, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidates won the majority of the seats in seven parishes, while the People’s National Party (PNP) won six.
The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation ended in a tie with the PNP and the JLP winning 20 seats each.

According to the Electoral Commission of Jamaica, the JLP was victorious in St Thomas, Portland, Clarendon, St James, St Elizabeth, Trelawny and St Ann while the PNP was victorious in Westmoreland, Hanover, St Mary, St Catherine, Manchester and Portmore where it claimed nine of the 12 electoral divisions.
