Jamaica’s Cope and Forbes seek NCAA honours at Boston meet
BOSTON, United States – Jamaica’s national indoor record holders Daniel Cope and Marie Forbes, both of Clemson University, will contest their respective weight throws event as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Indoor Championships get underway Thursday at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston.
The Clemson University seniors and programme record holders are among 41 Jamaicans who will be representing their universities in the championships. The latter is expected to kick into high gear on Friday when the main portion of the championships is slated to get underway.
On both Friday and Saturday, the men’s programme will precede the women’s. The men’s indoor Heptathlon will be held on Friday starting at 9:30 am while the women’s indoor Pentathlon will be held Saturday, starting at 9:50am.
Cope, who is ranked 11th overall, will return to the NCAA Indoors for the first time since 2022 when he finished 15th overall in the weight throw and will hope for a better placing this year.
The former Petersfield High and Cloud County Junior College All-American improved on his personal best and national record to 22.75m this year and was second in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) indoor championships in February.
Forbes will be returning to the NCAA Indoors after placing sixth last year when she threw her personal best 22.63m, and will hope to atone for her fourth place at the ACC Championships.
