Ability the choice in International Women’s Day Trophy feature race

The running of the $1.25-million International Women’s Day Trophy feature race, honouring the six female stewards of the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) as well as the senior secretary, takes centre stage on tomorrow’s 10-race card.

The race is an Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward going one mile (1,600m). The race has attracted a field of 14 runners including last year’s Jamaica Derby winner Ability.

The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a close look at each runner and their chances of winning.

1. SUNSET SILHOUTTE : (5 b m by Northern Giant – Ahwhofah) – Well-bred mare who has not been doing that badly in her races.
Sunset Silhoutte, who is without a win from three outings this season so far, should find a few in her way here and is one for the exotics.

2. CLASSICAL ORB (USA): 6 b g by Orb – Tiz A Masterpiece) – Has no realistic chance of winning this one.

3. BABYLIKE: (5 dkb m by Savoy Stomp – Ladylike) – Has yet to win at this level and that should remain the same here. Note: Blinkers on.

4. SONNY T AND CHIPPY: (5 b h by Savoy Stomp – Trinket Box) – Finished a good second behind Rhythm Buzz over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) on January 21. Despite facing his conquer and Ability here, Sonny T and Chippy is more than capable enough to land a telling blow here.

5. SHE’S MY FRIEND: (5 b m by Natural Selection – My Friend Lucy) – Is going to be left behind in this one.

6. PROVOCATIVA (USA): (5 dkb/br m by Protonico – Audacious Chloe) – Earned her first win on local soil the second time of asking on February 10 over one mile.
Provocativa won the race by 3 lengths in a time of 1:42.1.
Provocativa has looked an improved animal at exercise since her maiden win and could run well here.

7. ABILITY: (4 b c by Lion Tamer – Disability Charm) – Without a doubt the horse to beat here.
Ability, who is the current three-year-old champion from last season, was just beaten by a length and three-quarter by Bootylicious out the straight (1,000m) on March 2 in a quick 58.4. Now stretch out at a mile, more of his liking, Ability should use his class to get by these with the minimum of fuss. Note: Figure-8 on.

8. MONEY MONSTER: (7 b g by Casual Trick – She’s Traditional) – Down the track in eighth place on last when competing over 7 furlongs (1,400m) on February 25.
Money Monster has worked well coming into this race and so an improved run is expected.

9. D HEAD CORNERSTONE: (5 b h by Bern Identity – Soul Of The Heart) – Consistent runner who should once again go home earning here.

10. POWER: (5 ch h by Bal A Bali – Swift Fox) – Is not expected to figure here.

11. RANI BANGALA: (5 b m by Savoy Stomp – Palace Gold) – Finished fourth on her seasonal debut behind Is That Fact over one mile on January 27.
Rani Bangala, although not expected to win, is going to run a brave race.

12. LABAN: (7 b h by Sensational Slam – For Trixie) – is going to find a mile taxing here and is bet left alone.

13. RHYTHM BUZZ: (4 b c by Buzz Nightmare – River Rhythm) – Won at this level on January 21 over 7 ½ furlongs. Rhythm Buzz has shown vast improvement in his runs and based on his consistency, he should be the likely one to follow the favourite home here.

14.  POSITIVE ID: (6 b h by Bern Identity – Bubble Gal Bubble) – Has no form to recommend.
