Tension mounts in Little London, Westmoreland after teens killed during alleged police chase
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – Tension is mounting in Little London Westmoreland as the residents and families of Tareek Frazer and Javian Black search for answers in relation to their untimely death.
Police have been keeping a high presence in the area as residents continue to mount roadblocks once they are cleared.
Frazer’s mother, Nathalee Hutchinson wept bitterly at the protest as she recounted how her 15-year-old will not be collecting his lunch money to attend the Little London High School on Monday morning as he was accustomed to.
“Tomorrow he was supposed to see me for his lunch money to attend school. I can’t take this anymore,” Hutchinson said as she broke down in tears.
She said he was in grade 9 and had a promising future.
“I want justice, I want justice. Justice won’t bring them back but at least our hearts will be at ease,” the distraught mother told Observer Online.
Frazer was a pillion on the bike that 19-year-old Black was driving. Residents said the teens were chased by the police who allegedly hit the motorcycle, after which they collided into a tree.
But according to the police’s Corporate Communications Unit, lawmen assigned to the Westmoreland Police Division are probing the death of two men in a motor vehicle collision on the St Peter’s main road, on Friday,
It added that about 8:45 pm, Black and Tyreek, who were both travelling on a Cheetah motorcycle, collided in a motorcar that was travelling in the opposite direction.
The report continued, “The driver of the motorcar fled the scene. Another motorcyclist who was travelling in close proximity, was also injured in the incident. All three cyclists were taken to hospital where Frazer and Black were pronounced dead. The injured driver was admitted,”.
