#Champs2024: Calabar’s Bramwell cruises into Class 2 boys’ 400m semis
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Gold medal favourite Nickecoy Bramwell of Calabar High ran 50.09 seconds to cruise into Wednesday’s semi-final round of the Class 2 boys’ 400m at the ISSA GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships.
Bramwell, who won bronze in the event last year, crossed the line ahead of Kadjori Deer of Manchester High (50.66), Clevaughn Geniusof Albert Town (50.70), Jamaica College’s Makaelan (JC) Woods (50.79) and Tyrece Whyte of Port Antonio High (51.28).
In heats two and three, Excelsior High’s Demarco Bennett (49.73), Muschett High’s Shavoy Thompson (50.00), JC’s Deandre Isidore (50.11), Alex Arnold of St James High (51.10), Jabari Matheson of William Knibb (50.95), and Jaheem Perkins of Calabar High advanced.
Heats four and five saw Paul Henry of Foga Road High (49.64), St Jago High’s Rashad Buckle (49.86), Paul Bent of St Catherine High (51.06), Troydian Flemmings of Manchester High (50.25), Mount St Joseph’s Nishawn Walker (50.93), and Kingston College’s (KC) Jordan Rehedul (50.96) progress to the semi-finals.
From heat six, KC’s Markel Smith (48.89), Dantae Simpson of Port Antonio High (50.06), Foga Road’s Denzel Carter (50.13) and St Jago High’s Kijani Lambert (51.12) advanced, while heat seven’s Gregory McFarlane of Excelsior High (49.96), Tiandre Downer of Holmwood Technical (50.09) and Munro College’s Oneil Brown (51.60) rounded out the qualifiers.
The Class 2 boys’ 400m semis will be contested at 10:05 am.
