#Champs2024: Edwin Allen’s Carr tops qualifiers for Class 2 girls’ 400m semis

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Gold medal favourite Kellyann Carr of Edwin Allen High will lead the qualifiers into the semi-final round of the Class 2 girls’ 400m at the ISSA GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

Carr easily won heat one in 54.87 seconds. She finished ahead of Holmwood Technical’s Abrina Wright (56.03), Zonya-Camay Sterling of Wolmer’s Girls (57.72) and Manchester High’s Shakira Morris (58.88).

Excelsior High’s Breana Brown produced a time of 56.17 seconds to win heat two.

Holmwood’s Britannia Bailey (56.56) and Alphansus Davis’ Shanika Lindsay (57.16) are also through to the next round.

The semi-finalists from heat three and four are Shevaughn Thomas of Vere Technical (54.72), Kaysian Sewell of Wolmer’s Girls (57.42), Roneisha Johnson of Excelsior High (58.08), Jody-Ann Daley of Hydel High (55.63), St Mary High’s Shaggay Sheppy (55.63) and Ariana Atkinson of Mount Alvernia (56.29).

Hydel’s Nastassia Fletcher dominated heat five to clock 55.93 seconds, finishing ahead of Edwin Allen’s Shanique Cassanova (57.58).

Muschett High’s Shanoya Douglas (53.39) and Jesena Williams of Vere Technical (56.30) are the qualifiers from heat six.

The semi-final of the Class 2 girls’ 400m is slated for Wednesday at 9:50 am.
