#Champs2024: William Knibb’s Matheson leads Class 2 boys’ 200m qualifiers
KINGSTON, Jamaica – William Knibb High’s Jabari Matheson was the lone competitor to run sub-22 seconds to advance to Friday’s semi-final round of the Class 2 boys’ 200m at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships on Thursday morning.
Matheson cruised to 21.88 seconds to advance to the next round. The other automatic qualifiers are Ocho Rios High’s Rajaun Garrick (22.45); Johan-Ramaldo Smythe of Muschett High (22.08); York Castle’s Rodneil Mitchell (22.51); Orando Pine of Edwin Allen (22.56); Camperdown High’s Ajani Thomas (22.22); Kingston College’s (KC) Joshua Grant (22.39); Antwone Bygrave of St George’s College (22.51); Excelsior High’s Malike Nugent (22.26); Calabar’s Byron Walker (22.34); Nasir McMorris of Campion College (22.46); Green Island’s Oshane Jervis (22.48); St Catherine High’s Ian Barker (22.35); York Castle’s Johnson (22.58); Malique Dennis of Jamaica College (22.24) and Tavaine Stewart of Herbert Morrison (22.45).
The eight athletes to advance based on time are KC’s Joshua Spence (22.56); Christopher Ellis of Calabar High (22.68); Ferncourt High’s Davian Riley (22.67); Tarique Bennett of BB Coke (22.54); Cornwall College’s Thomas Daley (22.45); Meadowbrook’s Jordane Ferguson (22.84); Usain Bernard of Petersfield High (22.61) and Troy High’s Antone Beckford (22.77).
The Class 2 boys’ 200m semis are scheduled for 1:48 pm.
