USF donates Lenovo ThinkPad to Vauxhall High’s Cadet Corp
KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a move aimed at bolstering educational opportunities and administrative efficiency, the Universal Service Fund (USF) has gifted Vauxhall High School’s Cadet Corp with a Lenovo ThinkPad during a handover ceremony on Tuesday, April 9.
The ceremony, attended by school officials, cadets, and USF representatives, signifies a significant advancement for the Cadet Corp in harnessing technology for both academic and organizational purposes.
The coordinator for Vauxhall High School’s Cadet Corp, Suzette Granville expressed immense gratitude for the donation, emphasising the vital role the device would play in facilitating various aspects of their operations. Granville highlighted the immediate benefits, particularly in streamlining administrative tasks within the Cadet Corp.
“The QM [Quartermaster] unit at the moment, we don’t have a system whereby the persons can mark the registers and do the documentation. For example, the laptop would help the students to do the documentation, to generate the different documents that are there,” Granville remarked.
Granville also underscored the significance of the Lenovo ThinkPad for academic pursuits, stressing its utility for students engaged in School Based Assessments (SBAs) and various projects.
“Also, for the students who are doing SBAs and projects, they can utilise it for research, and that sort of thing,” she added.
Sharing his remarks, chief executive officer of the USF, Dr Daniel Dawes said, “We are pleased to contribute to the Vauxhall High School’s Cadet Corp and believe that this Lenovo ThinkPad will serve as a valuable resource in their academic and administrative endeavours.”
“Let this device ignite the flames of curiosity and ambition within each cadet, propelling them towards greatness. With determination and innovation, may they navigate the digital landscape to become pioneers of progress and champions of change,” Dr Dawes added.
The USF is an agency under the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications, and Transport. The Fund is mandated to ensure access to information and communication tools to facilitate development, with a focus on bridging the digital divide and promoting digital literacy across Jamaica.
