‘I don’t have the numbers, but I keep knocking at the door’ — trainer Gary Subratie
Gary Subratie continues to have an impact on the trainers’ championship race after posting a double with All For Love and Natural Dancer on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
Subratie, who is ranked among the trainers with 16 to 35 horses, currently sits second in the trainers’ race with nine wins from 53 starts and earnings of $10,055,050. Jason DaCosta leads with 13 wins from 76 starts and earnings of $11,663,050.
DaCosta, Anthony Nunes, and Steven Todd are the only trainers at the park with over 35 horses at their stables.
“I don’t have the numbers, but I keep knocking at the door. I am just trying to win with the horses, and if it [championship] comes, then it comes,” Subratie told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
All For Love, ridden by Dane Dawkins, won the fourth race, a native-bred four-year-old and upward (non-winners of four) and imported four-year-old and upward (non-winners of three) over 6 furlongs (1,200m).
The four-year-old chestnut filly won by three lengths ahead of Fred the Great (Robert Halledeen) and Legit Boss (Raddesh Roman) in a time of 1:14.4 (23.1 x 48.1).
Natural Dancer was victorious in the day’s ninth event, a native-bred four-year-old and upward (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-olds and upward (maidens) fillies and mares over 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight.
With Raddesh Roman in the saddle, Natural Dancer won by 4 ¼ lengths ahead of Zayn’s Princess (Roger Hewitt) in a time of 1:00.1 (23.3 x 46.0).
“All for Love won very impressively. She fought off a decent horse, and so it looks like she is going places. Natural Dancer won a decent race as she was going away from the field. She is a stopper, but she went away from the field today, which I felt good about.
“She is coming on. I mean, she has issues, and we are trying to work around her, and I hope she wins again the next time out. She is coming on nicely, and this is a good fit for her, which will give her some confidence,” said Subratie.
