Knutsford mulling resumption of Kgn/MoBay express service
MONTEGO BAY, St James — CEO of Knutsford Express Oliver Townsend says they are mulling over whether to resume non-stop express service between Kingston and Montego Bay.
The business class service was first introduced in 2016, offering a 5:00 am and 3:15 pm trip from both directions, but was halted two years later.
During a luncheon for past presidents of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday, member Gloria Henry asked if there were plans to once again offer the route alongside Knutsford’s current offerings.
“It’s something that is in consideration,” Townsend replied. “That would be in consideration, especially for the business folks who go early and are coming back.”
He cautioned, however, that any decision taken would be based on demand, the same factor that had led to the service being discontinued in 2022.
“A lot of business activities have changed in recent times, very robust, so we will take a look at it again with all other options as to what we can do,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
“I just think based on overall efficiencies and everything and the needs for our various customers [that is] why it might have been amended at that time,” he explained.
In the meantime, the company is continuing its push to provide coverage across the entire country.
“We’re almost islandwide and come January we hope to serve the one parish that we are not offering a direct service to, which is St Thomas,” said Townsend.
“We are looking forward to completing that whole network. Maybe at that time one can circumnavigate the island,” he remarked.
Knutsford Express will mark its 18th anniversary in June and, according to its CEO, it will leverage the latest technologies to continue to deliver quality service.
