#Champs2024: JC sweep boys’ 800m finals
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica College’s (JC’s) navy blue swept through the National Stadium as their top athletes dominated all the boys’ 800m finals at ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships on Saturday.
JC’s Kemarrio Bygrave defended his Class 1 title in 1:51.75. Kingston College’s Jaquan Coke finished second in 1:52.59. Maggotty High’s Yoshane Bowen rounds out the top finishers in 1:53.02.
In Class 2, JC’s Samuel Creary added gold to his 1500m win. Kingston College’s Nahashon Ruto won silver while St Mary High’s Rasheed Grant took home the bronze.
Meanwhile, Cavel Nooks of JC equalled his personal best of 1:58.25 to claim the Class 3 crown. His teammate Cameron Williams finished second in 2:02.53 while Sydney Pagon’s Luke Plummer copped the bronze in 2:02.86.
Edwin Allen’s Rickeisha Simms powered through to claim gold in the Class 1 girls’ race in 2:08.56. Hydel’s Abigail Campbell won silver in 2:09.07 while Monique Stewart, also of Edwin Allen, finished third in 2:10.19.
Holmwood Technical’s Jovi Rose (2:15.37) upgraded her bronze from last year to win gold in the class 2 girls’ final. Silver went to St Jago’s Kededra Coombs (2:16.66) while Edwin Allen’s Horecia Love took bronze in 2:17.10.
In the Class 3 girls’ event, it was Alphansus Davis’ Alikay Reynolds, who won the 1500m on Wednesday that topped the field in 2:17.79. Edwin Allen’s Kevongaye Fowler, who was tapped as the favourite to win, had to settle for silver with 2:13.19. St Mary High’s Dallia Fairweather finished third in 2:13.20.
