New cranes in Scotland named after Taylor Swift and Usain Bolt
Greenock in Scotland is set to welcome a unique pair of towering figures later this year, albeit not of the human variety.
According to BBC, the town’s docks will soon be graced by two impressive new cranes, each standing at an impressive 39 metres (128 feet) tall. The cranes will be named after pop star Taylor Swift and athlete Usain Bolt, following a school competition.
The competition was organised by Peel Ports Clydeport in collaboration with Inverclyde Council.
The winning names, selected from entries submitted by local schoolchildren, pay homage to two globally recognised icons. One crane will be christened “Craner Swift,” a nod to Taylor Swift, while the other will bear the name “U-Crane Bolt,” a fitting tribute to the legendary Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt, a BBC report said.
It explained that the £25 million cranes, crafted in Ireland, are scheduled to make their grand entrance at the port in the forthcoming months.
The competition proved to be a source of excitement and creativity for the participating pupils.
The BBC added that to the honour of naming the cranes, the winning students will be commemorated with a plaque to be prominently displayed alongside the towering structures, ensuring their lasting legacy in the town’s maritime landscape.
