NWA on track to complete Mount Moriah to Bohemia roadway rehabilitation ahead of target
The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that work is going smoothly on the Mount Moriah to Bohemia Rehabilitation Project in St Ann.
According to the NWA, just one month after the start of the work, the project is already 65 per cent complete and on track to be finished before the six-month mark.
Since breaking ground for the project on February 13, this major road initiative, valued at $135 million, promises to not only enhance connectivity for residents and businesses but also substantially reduce travel time, providing Jamaicans with quicker and easier transportation.
Providing an update on the project’s progress, Miguel Wood, the NWA’s manager for the Mount Moriah Road Rehabilitation project and parish manager for St Ann said about half of the overlaying aspect has been completed so far.
“So we should be finished way ahead of the projected six-month time period. Bushing and drainage construction have also been completed, and drain cleaning is almost done, so I would say we are more than on track,” said Wood.
The scope of the road rehabilitation project includes debushing and trimming of banks, cutting overhanging trees, cleaning and constructing adequate drainage infrastructure, removing silt and debris, excavating and refilling soft spots, major paving of the roadway with asphaltic concrete, and road marking.
Local construction company S&G Road Surfacing Materials Ltd secured the contract through a competitive procurement process.
According to Karl Tindale, S&G Limited’s project manager, his team has made great progress so far.
“Completing in such a fast time has its benefits, and this is an amazing accomplishment seeing that we’re only about a month in,” said Tindale.
In the meantime, the NWA said it remains steadfast in its commitment to the continuous development of Jamaica’s main road network.
Alongside the Mount Moriah to Bohemia Rehabilitation Project, several other road initiatives are currently underway including the Natural Bridge to Troja corridor in St Catherine and Holland to Bounty Hall in Trelawny.
