Title holders St Catherine face Kingston in Senior Cup semis
St Mary welcome JDF in other last-four clash
THE keen rivalry between title holders St Catherine Cricket Club and 2023 finalists Kingston CC is set to resume this weekend as the teams clash in the Jamaica Cricket Association two-day Senior Cup semi-finals.
The encounter is set to start this morning at Kensington Park in east Kingston.
In the weekend’s other semi-final, Jamaica Defence Force travel to face St Mary Cricket Association in Three Hills.
In the clash at Kensington, both teams are set to be without a number of top players due to them featuring for Jamaica Scorpions in the regional first class match versus Guyana Harpy Eagles at Sabina Park.
St Catherine CC Head Coach Odean Brown expressed cautious confidence going into the encounter.
“It’s always a good battle between Kingston and St Catherine, and we look forward to it. Both teams are without some players due to the Jamaica game but we’ll see what happens,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
“We have some youngsters this season but I’m confident anyway because whoever we put out always stands up — and we’re hoping for that to continue,” Brown added.
Kingston CC Captain Akim Fraser suggested the match could come down to which team has the deeper squad.
“We’re really looking forward to the game; I think it will be a hotly contested one. Both teams will be missing a number of national representatives so it will really test the depth of the squads,” he said.
“We have a number of younger players who are not as experienced who have stepped up for us this season,” Fraser noted.
