Champion two-year-old Intrestntimesahead returns with a bang
Intrestntimesahead, the champion two-year-old of last season, made a successful start this season after overcoming traffic issues to easily defeat rivals in the Prince Consort Stakes on Sunday, April 14, 2024.
Intrestntimesahead was cramped for space shortly after leaving the starting gates, and despite having a lot of work to do, the bay colt came on strong in deep stretch to win the seven-furlong event by three lengths. The final time for the race was a smooth 1:28.3 (24.0 x 47.4 x 1:13.2).
The Graded Stakes contest for native-bred three-year-old colts and geldings was one of the major prep races on the ‘Road to the Triple Crown’ series of the races. The next stop on the journey for the colts and geldings will be The Kingston, scheduled for next month.
Despite the poor start, jockey Tevin Foster said that he was always confident that
Intrestntimesahead would be victorious as once riding to instructions, everything would be alright.
“First of all, I want to thank God, the trainer, the owner, the groom, and everybody that put in the work with this horse and prepared him well to come out victorious today. The trainer told me to break as sharp as possible, sit third or fourth in the race, but if not, and I end up leading the race, just relax him as best as possible and wait for the quarter pole before I ask him to run,” Foster said.
“It was a tardy start, but I got him together, put him on his bridle, and just teased him down in the race. Each time I ask him he quickened and so I just waited for the straight, and with a clear run in deep stretch he gave me all he got.
“Turning for home when J Spieth took over the lead, I could see that he was flat and my horse was travelling sweet, and so I knew that the race was over. My horse won easily; he is a very good horse and it was a brilliant performance,” Foster added.
Teflon Don (Robert Halledeen) led the way early on, with Unruly Don (Youville Pinnock) on his outside.
J Spieth (Reyan Lewis) raced next ahead of Midnight Galaxy (Paul Francis) as Intrestntimesahead raced second from last in the nine-horse field.
As the runners sorted themselves out down the backstretch, the top three held their positions, with Allegiance (Josue Osorio) and Matuso (Oshane Nugent) approaching, while
Intrestntimesahead continued to trail.
Going into the half-mile turn, Intrestntimesahead was in seventh position but quickly slipped down into third place coming off the final turn behind J Spieth and Teflon Don.
Intrestntimesahead wasted no time gobbling up rivals inside the final furlong to win going away.
