Chocomo to make it two from two in Restricted Stakes highlighter
Despite the presence of the Aston Commock Memorial Trophy, the $1.19-million Restricted Stakes fight between foreigners Chocomo and Wall Street Trader is predicted to draw the most attention on tomorrow’s nine-race schedule.
The race is for imported three-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and native-bred three-year-olds and four-year-olds (non-winners of four) over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m).
The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a close look at each runner and their chances of winning.
1. ROYAL ASH: (4 rn f by Fearless Vision – Greek Goddess) – Just held on to beat
Cookie Day N Night over 7 furlongs (1,400m) on April 6.
Royal Ash steps up here to compete and is going to find repeating not an option.
2.CHOCOMO (USA): (3 b c by Backtalk – Chocolate) – Highly-rated foreigner who made a successful debut on local soil on March 23.
Chocomo won going 6 furlongs (1,200m) by 2 lengths in a time of 1:15.4.
Chocomo has been training well since and has looked an improved runner as well and could make it two wins in a row.
3. GRECIAN LIGHT (USA): (3 b f by Girvin – Mo Zin) – Ran a brave race to finish fourth behind Funcaandun and Wall Street Trader over 7 furlongs on March 30. A similar effort could see Grecian Light going home with a share of the spoils.
4. PRINCESS AMAHLE (USA): (3 b f by Klimt – Nuestra Union) – Finished second by 2 lengths behind Rejected Raja over 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight on April 6.
Princess Amahle also goes well on the round course and is expected to run well here.
5.WALL STREET TRADER (USA): (5 dk b/br g by Vancouver – Selva) – Finished in second places in his two runs on local soil.
Wall Street Trader was beaten by a length by Rhythm Buzz over 6 furlongs on March 16 and came back and finished two lengths behind Funcaandun at 7 furlongs on March 30.
Wall Street Trader, who is also highly thought of at home, should enjoy the pace of this race and could go one better.
6. POWER FROM ABOVE: (4 ch f by Key To Power – Blufield) – Nicely-bred filly who is going to enjoy this distance.
Power From Above should not be left out of calculations here.
7. BOX BOX (USA): (4 ch f by Shaman Ghost – Jessica) – Won going 7 furlongs two starts aback in a quick 1:26.2.
Box Box is expected to play a prominent role here.
8. STRIKE SMART: (4 b c by Wannabeaplayer – Profile) – Has no chance of winning this one.
9. SMARTASSET: ( 4 b c Bold Conquest – Cerasini) – Should be safely bypassed.
