Raddesh Roman stars with four-timer at Caymanas Park
IN form rider Raddesh Roman continued to display his prowess in the saddle when the reinsman booted home four winners to highlight Saturday’s nine-race card at Caymanas Park.
Roman’s winners included a bold, front-running effort from Antarctica in the $780,000 Aston Commock Memorial Trophy feature race. The contest was a Restricted Allowance IV contest for native four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and imported four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) over one mile (1,600m) — and Antarctica won by 4½ lengths in a time of 1:42.4 (24.3 x 48.1 x 1:16.0).
Cookie Day N Night (Richard Henry) finished second and Super Alex (Youville Pinnock) finished third.
Antarctica, owned by Connecticut and trained by Errol Waugh, is a four-year-old bay colt bred by Savoy Stomp out of the Adore The Gold mare Jessie’s Favourite.
His other winners were Anonymous in the third race and Golden Syrup in the sixth race for trainer Anthony Nunes, and He Stands Alone for trainer Michael Cain Jr in the seventh race.
Roman’s victories continue to make the 2024 jockey’s championship a competitive struggle between himself and leader Tevin Foster. Roman, who began the day with 27 wins — 16 behind Foster (43 wins) — increased his total to 31 wins, closing the deficit to 12 wins. Foster was winless with six mounts on the day.
Racing continues next weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
