Tivoli FC, Waterhouse draw in first-leg quarter of JPL quarter-final playoffs
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tivoli Gardens FC came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 score against Waterhouse in the first leg of their quarterfinal encounter in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League playoffs at Sabina Park on Monday.
It was a cagey start to the game but Tivoli created the better of the chances earlier on. In the 24th minute, Anthony Nelson’s glancing header was denied by the crossbar.
A minute later, Howard Morris thought he put his team in front from his header but was adjudged to have fouled Waterhouse goalkeeper Kemar Foster. However, Tivoli would inflict their own damage as midfielder Nathan Thomas lost the ball in his own box and took down Waterhouse forward Javane Bryan in the process, giving them a penalty.
Bryan would then send Haughton the wrong way to put Waterhouse in front.
The second half saw Tivoli control the majority of possession but with nothing to show for it.
However, they found the equaliser when Rodico Wellington’s floating free-kick created confusion in the Waterhouse defence and Lennox Russell pounced with an easy tap-in.
Wellington had chances to win it himself later on but was unable to convert.
The second leg will take place next Monday at Sabina Park.
