Feedback great for Protect Me, says BadLife
Emerging dancehall artiste BadLife has been getting recognition for the track
Protect Me, both locally and internationally.
Released on January 11, the track was produced by Rebel Records Production and Highest Audio.
“The feedback has been great. It has been getting a lot of plays in the US as well as almost 10,000 plays in three months on Apple Music,” the singer, whose real name is Terrence Swire, told the Jamaica Observer.
Protect Me also sees contributions from fellow artistes Leelo, who is the son of Buju Banton and Meleku — son of Sizzla Kalonji.
Noting that he will be teaming up with the two acts again, BadLife said it was inevitable for them to collaborate.
“I’ve known both artistes for some time now, so it was just a matter of time till we linked up and made some magic. Leelo is also a Rebel Records artiste,” the St George’s College past student added.
Protect Me has an accompanying music video on YouTube that has over 11,000 views to date.
Meanwhile, BadLife has scores of other numbers produced by Rebel Records and Highest Audio, among them Dat Is It, Right Now, Money Money, and a track with DJ Mac called
See Pree.
The deejay said that he looks up to several seasoned acts from whom he draws inspiration from.
“I have many inspirations, as I listen to a lot of music. But, as Jamaican talents, I would say Vybz Kartel, Popcaan, and Masicka. Vybz Kartel and Masicka are lyricists, and I like the way they attack the beats, as well that Kartel barely sounds the same in every song he sings; so I try to emulate that. Popcaan is a very simple and efficient artiste and I respect that highly. Overall, I’m inspired by the whole culture of reggae and dancehall,” BadLife reasoned.
He is currently busy in the studio working on new material to be released in short order.
“I am working on two projects. Hopefully they will be completed and released by the end of the year. One of them is a solo project and the other is a collab project with a fellow Rebel Records artiste called Zakasi,” the entertainer said.
