Wall Street Trader comes good after third attempt
Five-year-old American-bred dark bay/brown gelding Wall Street Trader, after three starts, earned his first victory on local soil with a powerful win in the $1.19-million Restricted Stakes race on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
The event was for imported three-year-olds and upward (non-winners for three) and native-bred three-year-olds and four-year-olds (non-winners of four) over 7 ½ furlongs, and
Wall Street Trader won the race by 3 1/2 lengths in a time of 1:33.3 (23.3 x 46.3 x 1:11.2).
Wall Street Trader, with Robert Halledeen in the saddle, settled just off the pace at the break and raced in fifth position behind Box Box (Reyan Lewis), Strike Smart (Omar Walker),
Smartasset (Roger Hewitt), and Princess Amahle (Raddesh Roman).
As the runners sorted themselves out down the backstretch, Wall Street Trader slipped down in second place behind Box Box before picking up the lead heading towards the half-mile turn.
Wall Street Trader increased his lead ahead of Box Box and Grecian Light (Tevin Foster) navigating the turn and came off the final bend with a healthy lead.
Wall Street Trader hit the wire ahead of Box Box and Grecian Light in that order.
