Excelsior wins historic boys’ 4x100m relay at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, United States — Excelsior High pulled off a major victory on Saturday after winning the Championships of Americas high school boys’ 4x100m title on the final day of the 128th Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
The team of Ryeem Walker, Damon Miller, Malike Nugent and Lennon Green, who won the international final last year, ran 40.45 seconds to beat eight-time champions Kingston College – 40.53 seconds and Herbert Morrison Technical – 40.56 seconds.
This was Excelsior High’s first win in any Championships of Americas final at the Penn Relays since 1967 when they won the 4×110 yards title.
Archbishop John Caroll of the District of Columbia was the first American team to cross the line, in fourth place, in 40.68 seconds.
Calabar High was fifth in 40.76 seconds, St Jago High was sixth in 40.92 seconds followed by St Georges College – 41.60 seconds, West Springfield of Virginia- 41.62 seconds and Jamaica College – 41.76 seconds.
