The ‘Fun’ is continuing…now four from four
Three-year-old American-bred Funcaandun continued to ignite sparks on local soil, romping home to his fourth consecutive victory in the World Veterinary Day Trophy over one mile (1,600m) on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Owned by champion Carlton Watson and trained by champion Jason DaCosta, Funcaandun by Klimt out of Fiftyshadesoffun, easily dispatched rivals by 16 ½ lengths in one move in the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward.
With Shamaree Muir once again in the irons, Funcaandun quickly went to the head of the pack, leading Big Argument (Ramon Nepare), Babylike (Jerome Innis), and Eagle One (Roger Hewitt) down the backstretch. Although pressed by Big Argument for a short while,
Funcaandun was unperturbed approaching the half-mile when he began to draw clear.
Turning for home, Funcaandun showed his class by powering home to win without any fuss or challenge. Babylike finished second and Big Argument came home third. The final time for the race was 1:40.0 (25.2 x 49.2 x 1:14.2).
Watson expressed satisfaction with his charge’s performance as Funcaandun continued to progress.
“On a slow track, clocking 1:40.0 very easy is awesome,” Watson told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“I am satisfied with the performance and we hope he continues to keep sound and continues to win and make us have a lot of fun. He is up in Open Allowance company now, I don’t know when he will race again, as the trainer decides on those things, but he is improving and we are taking it race by race,” Watson added.
