MONTEGO BAY, St James — After his girlfriend of 10 years reportedly dumped him for his best friend, Glenroy Williams allegedly drove the woman to a lonely area, threatened to kill her at knifepoint and assaulted her.

On Wednesday, Williams pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning bodily harm and assault at common law when he appeared in the St James Parish Court.

In outlining its case, the prosecution said that about 2:30 pm on April 23, the complainant arrived at her mother’s home in Fairfield, Irwin in St James and noticed Williams approaching the house. In an attempt to protect herself, she closed the door, but Williams reportedly managed to enter the house by climbing through a bedroom window.

He allegedly held the complainant by her neck and covered her mouth, then brandished a knife and menacingly declared, “A kill mi a go kill yuh now.” Williams reportedly also warned the complainant that if she tried to escape, he would stab her.

It is alleged that Williams then drove away with the complainant in his car, taking her to a lonely area in Rosemount, where he slapped her in the face. He reportedly then said, “Mi a go kill yuh.”

Williams reportedly then attempted to drive the woman to Porto Bello in Montego Bay to pick up their son but was unexpectedly stopped by a police officer along the way. The complainant then got out of the car and proceeded to file a formal report.

When Williams was cautioned, he reportedly said, “Officer, I was just upset. She just moved out of my house a week ago and has now gone to be with my best friend.”

“What was the intention of taking her from the house into the car?” the judge asked Williams after the allegations were outlined in court.

“Your Honour, to be honest, I only wanted to talk to her,” said Williams.

He expressed regret for his actions and apologised for any pain or distress he may have caused. He also emphasised his desire to improve himself and become an excellent father.

The complainant then intervened, expressing her desire to drop the charges.

However, presiding judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton was not inclined to dismiss the charges at that moment and decided to keep Williams in police custody. The judge stated that she would consider the complainant’s request on May 29, when the case returns to court.

Williams will remain behind bars until that date.
