Shwaniyah sings about her loves
Dominican reggae singer Shwaniyah has expressed her affinity with Jamaican men through two singles, namely Jamaica My Love and Man From Jamaica.
“I’m think I’m obsessed with Jamaican men. It’s not something that I am ashamed of. I find them very inspiring. When I checked the dictionary and found the meaning of the word ‘obsessed’, I realised that this is how I feel, and I am more inspired by them than any other men I’ve come across in the world. They just make me feel fiery and upbeat. I’ve had associations with two Jamaican men in the past and now I’m looking to meet more men from Jamaica,” she told the Jamaica Observer.
Man From Jamaica is inspired by Notnice Records’ Boom Box rhythm. Produced by DJ Carlos from Caye Records in St Lucia and mixed at Birmingham Studios in England, the song was written about her first Jamaican love, a man from Spanish Town.
Following this track is Jamaica My Love, which was produced by Lioness Movements and Dreadlock Nation Namibia, and mixed by CaskeysOnit in Ghana.
“This one was inspired by my second Jamaican love. This human supercharged my creativity in ways that I cannot explain, he’s a real angel,” the singer added.
Originally from Dominica, Shwaniyah is now living in England pursuing her master’s degree and completing the bar practice course. She recently graduated with honours in law from the University of Wolverhampton.
She finds herself balancing several hats along with her music career such as Accredited Commercial Mediator, Paralegal, Certified Tarot reader.
Describing her releases as survival music, the artiste has been in the game for the past 14 years, having released her first recorded audio in 2010.
“My music is musings from my soul. I hope to keep listening to the voices in my head and just sing what I hear,” she said.
Some of her other releases include I’m In Love, Stepping Flame, Waiting, and
Boomerang.
In the meantime, the singer is working on her first music video and will also be embarking on a Lioness Movements east African tour in the near future with Empress Naphtali of South Africa.
