25 horses provisionally entered in 2024 Jamaica 1000 Guineas
Twenty-five fillies, led by winner of The Portmore, Run Julie Run,
have been provisionally entered in the 2024 Jamaica 1000 Guineas.
The 1000 Guineas, a native-bred three-year-old Futurity event, will be contested on Saturday, June 1, 2024, over a mile (1,600m) for a purse of $3.75 million.
Run Julie Run ( Successful Native – Runaway Julie) reaffirmed herself as the top filly going into the 1000 Guineas after an easy 10 ½ length win in The Portmore over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) on Saturday, May 4. The Ian Parsard trainee won in a time of 1:33.2 (23.2 x 46.3 x 1:11.2) after making all the running.
Run Julie Run will have stablemate Amma as company in the season’s first Classic race.
Also in the line-up is Banadura, winner of the Hotline and Thornbird Stakes races, two of the three major races on the ‘Road to the Triple Crown’.
Banadura was expected to figure once again in The Portmore, but the Jason DaCosta trainee finished down the track.
If Banadura is not able to fire here, then DaCosta has Comehometome,
Rosetta, Lucy In The Sky, and Dancing Aviator in the 16 entries for participation. DaCosta also has Hit N Run on the also eligible list.
Comehometome (Northern Giant –Heart of Gold) looks DaCosta’s best hope of landing the 1000 Guineas. She was third in the Hotline Stakes (6 furlongs), second in the Thornbird Stakes (7 furlongs), and fourth in the The Portmore.
Comehometome is bred to get a distance of ground and is expected to carry the DaCosta’s flag well.
Fastnfuriouslinks (Casual Trick –Another Fury), trained by Barrington Bernard, is another runner who should do well in the 1000 Guineas. She was second to Run Julie Run in the The Portmore on May 4 and should be brave once again.
Former champion Anthony Nunes has only one runner in the top 16 horses provisionally entered, Battle Angel (Bern Identity – Angel Dreams).
The full list is published.
