Relatives named him as Dave Woodley, 38, a resident of Broadleaf and taxi operator of the Mandeville to Broadleaf/ Comfort route.
Police said about 6:15 am Woodley was the lone occupant in a Toyota Probox taxi travelling from Knockpatrick towards Mandeville when he attempted to overtake a Honda Civic motor car. Both vehicles collided.
Head of the Mandeville traffic department Sergeant Florizel Williams said the vehicles climbed an embankment.
“Both vehicles overturned. Both drivers were taken to the Mandeville Regional Hospital,” said Williams.
Woodley died while undergoing treatment.
His Aunt, Cynthia Townsend said she last spoke to him on Father’s Day.
“We got a call from the hospital to get here quickly. By the time we got here we heard he was in an accident,” she said.
“He was coming from his baby mother’s house. He went for his Father’s Day dinner and left early this morning to start working,” added Townsend.
