55 teachers on their way to becoming principals
ST JAMES, Jamaica— More than 50 classroom teachers, who have shown an interest in becoming the headmaster or headmistress of public schools, are closer to having their dreams become a reality after successfully completing the Aspiring Principals Programme.
More than half the graduates were women.
“We’re happy to announce that last Friday we graduated 55 classroom teachers who indicated they aspire to be principals,” stated Education and Youth Minister Fayval Williams.
“It’s a very exciting programme of which we are quite pleased,” she added.
Williams was addressing, remotely, a Post Cabinet Media Briefing at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James on Wednesday.
The programme is aimed at equipping trained teachers to become principals. All principals of public schools must be trained. The postgraduate-level programme is delivered in partnership with the University of the West Indies.
Areas of study include school financial and administrative management, and instructional and community leadership.
