Shane Richardson logs 16th win of season
APPRENTICE jockey Shane Richardson continued to make a name for himself among the top riders, scoring his 16th win of the season with an impressive double on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
Richardson’s winners included Crimson, trained by Carlton Cunningham, in the second race; and Sheboom, trained by Alroy Watson, in the sixth race.
Eight-year-old bay gelding Crimson (Nuclear Wayne – Sarah Baracuda) ran out an easy seven-length winner in the three-year-old and upward Claiming ($750,000-$600,000) event over 7½ furlongs (1,500m). Crimson won ahead of Anonymous (Shane Ellis) and Tigray Express (Tevin Foster) in a time of 1:36.4 (25.0 x 49.1 x 1:16.3 x 1:30.0).
Sheboom (American Dance – Holy Princess) was equally impressive, winning by 5½ lengths in a three-year-old and upward Optional Claiming ($400,000-$300,000) event that included six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of four) over seven furlongs (1,400m).
Sheboom won ahead of Secret Traveller (Raddesh Roman) and Sensational Gold (Reyan Lewis) in 1:31.1 (24.3 x 49.1 x 1:16.4)
Richardson’s remarkable form has catapulted him to sixth position in the jockeys’ standings, solidifying his reputation as one of the top young riders in the sport.
