Suarez Brothers Circus returns
Islandwide tours starts late November
The Suarez Brothers Circus will return to Jamaica during the latter part of November and remain until the new year.
Director Ivan Suarez noted that the world-renowned circus will begin its run in Kingston at Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre before moving on to an islandwide tour.
“We changed the logistics. In the beginning of the year we planned to have it during the summer vacation, and then we moved it to the end of the year,” Suarez told the Jamaica Observer.
The circus returns to the island after seven years.
Its return is a partnership with the Sharon Burke-led Solid Agency and Burke Bodley Limited.
Suarez said that he has been familiar with Burke for decades, so the partnership came together organically.
“We’ve known Sharon Burke since the 80s through working with her a long time ago. Now we have a new team we’re going to collaborate,” he said.
The Suarez Brothers Circus was founded in 1872 and has been coming to Jamaica since the 1980s.
The director further explained that this run will feature new tricks and performances to create a unique experience for patrons.
“All the shows are going to be different. Every time we do a tour in the Caribbean or Central, South or North America we change the show. The show that we’re bringing this time is completely different from the last time and the times before. We have many, many surprises this time,” he said.
He revealed that the team will, however, bring back the ‘Globe of Death’, which is an act in which stunt driver are on motorcycles inside a mesh sphere ball. It is similar to the Wall of Death, but in this act the drivers can loop vertically as well as horizontally.
Suarez is confident that the circus’s return will be a treat for the entire family.
“Today, there aren’t many activities that can bring together all the family. The circus is one of those activities that you can see the entire family come and enjoy. Not many activities can do that,” he said.
