Councillor passes away
COUNCILLOR for the Aenon Town Division in Clarendon Northern, the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Majorie McLeod-McFarlane is dead.
McLeod-McFarlane died approximately 1:00 pm on Sunday. The cause of death was not immediately clear but preliminary information is that foul play is not suspected and that McLeod-McFarlane died of natural causes.
Her death is sending shock waves through the governing party’s political machinery in the constituency which is represented in the House of Representatives by Dwight Sibblies.
McLeod won 1,403 (51.69 per cent) votes in the recent local government election to defeat the People’s National Party’s Delroy Dawson, who got 1,311 votes (48.31 per cent), registering a shock win for the JLP in the division.
It was the first time a JLP representative had won that division.
Her passing reduces the JLP’s 12-to-10 majority in Clarendon Municipal Corporation to a razor-thin 11-10 margin.
