Reggae Youths win St James FA U-20 title
TUCKER, St James — Reggae Youths were crowned champions of the St James Football Association/Guardian Group Under-20 competition after beating Granville United 3-1 in the final played at WesPow Park on Sunday.
Oneil Rowe scored a double as Reggae Youths netted three times in a 10-minute span in the first half to decide the title.
Maldon took third place after beating outgoing champions Cambridge United 5-3 on penalty kicks, after they had played out a 2-2 draw in the consolation game between the beaten semi-finalists.
Cambridge United had come from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw, after Javaughn Anglin scored in the 20th minute and Alikay McFarlane in the 29th minute to give Maldon a 2-0 lead.
Jamar Stevens halved the deficit when he scored in the 40th minute for Cambridge United, and Tahj-Wayne Robinson levelled the scores in the 70th minute before the game was decided on spot kicks.
In the final, Rowe — who was named MVP of that game — scored in the 24th and 34th minute, sandwiching the 33rd-minute goal from Nathaniel Wilson.
Ajani Clarke scored a consolation goal for Granville United in the 68th minute.
Nicardo Tomlinson of Irwin High, who scored eight goals, was the top scorer for the competition, Jkwon Kenton of Reggae Youths won the Golden Gloves award for best goalkeeper, and Green Pond High were named Most Disciplined Team.
