Glenmuir, Garvey Maceo put winning records on the line in daCosta Cup
RICKETTS...I sympathise with them because it is really hard for them at times if they don’t have sufficient security personnel at these games (Photo: Paul Reid)

Glenmuir, Garvey Maceo put winning records on the line in daCosta Cup

FORMER champions Glenmuir High and Garvey Maceo High will both put two-game winning starts on the line when they meet in an Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/Wata daCosta Cup Zone I first-round game at Glenmuir High in May Pen, Clarendon.

They are among five schools that will be seeking a third-straight win so far in the season. Holmwood Technical, Happy Grove High, and Port Antonio High will also be seeking to keep their winning starts intact.

Among the 25 games scheduled to be played on Saturday, defending champions Clarendon College will also return to action after opening up their season last weekend with a close win over Denbigh High. Former winners Cornwall College, St Elizabeth Technical High School, and Munro College are also down to play.

It will be the first time the Clarendon-based rivals will be meeting in the first round since the 2019 season when Garvey Maceo won the return game after they had played out a 1-1 result in the first encounter.

The Andrew Peart-coached Glenmuir High, last season’s beaten daCosta Cup finalists, have got off to a fast start, scoring 18 goals in just two games, including a merciless 13-0 hammering of Porus High on Wednesday — just under half of the 38 goals they scored in the first round last season.

Orel Miller tops the goals charge with back-to-back hat-tricks and, along with Dunsting Cohen, the former Denbigh High player is expected to lead the attack against Garvey Maceo.

The Garvey Maceo team is yet to put a foot wrong so far and has scored eight goals in two outings. Both Glenmuir and Garvey Maceo are yet to concede a goal.

Zone G leaders Holmwood Technical preserved their perfect record after outscoring Bellefield High on Wednesday, and face Alphansus Davis High who could take over the lead if they win.

Happy Grove will hope to complete another dominant first round after back-to-back wins, and will take on Morant Bay High who are on one point from a 2-2 result against second-placed Seaforth High.

After wins over St Mary Technical and St Mary High, Port Antonio High face Wycliffe Martin High who won their opening game on Wednesday.

Clarendon College are to take on Lennon High who they beat 5-0 twice last season. Clarendon College have not conceded a goal their last four meetings.

In Zone E, Munro College’s newly appointed coach, Kemar Ricketts will return to BB Coke High, the school which he coached to a historic quarter-final finish last year.

Both Munro and BB Coke won their opening matches.
