Date’s set
Netball Jamaica finally plans for long-awaited AGM
FIRST Vice-President Simone Forbes has confirmed that Netball Jamaica’s (NJ) annual general meeting (AGM) will be held on December 14. Forbes told the Jamaica Observer that NJ members have been informed and are relieved that a date has finally been set for the AGM.
“I am happy, because it took some doing and some time, but I am extremely happy that we are at a place now where we can have the AGM,” she said. “It is a relief to say that we are going to have the AGM in December.”
NJ elections are overdue, with the last AGM held in 2021 at Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston. All current NJ positions, including the presidency and directorship roles, will be up for re-election at this year’s AGM. Incumbent President Tricia Robinson is serving her second term.
Forbes, a former captain of the Sunshine Girls, says NJ is committed to implementing measures to ensure AGMs are held as constitutionally required, as they aim for smoother operations.
“The board has started looking at ensuring that processes are in place so that there is no repeat of anything like this,” she said. “We want to make sure that we continue to be a sport governed well, and not having an AGM this long doesn’t reflect that. I am very happy that we are having it, and the board is going to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
Forbes, once rated as the world’s best goal attack, mentioned that she has not yet decided if she will seek re-election.
“I still have some time,” she said. “There are several things I have to think about to see if I am able to commit to what comes with being a member of this board.”
Robinson has remained reserved about whether she will seek re-election. Several calls to her mobile phone for clarity on her plans went unanswered.
