Dr Thea-Nicole Davis thrives with at-home medical services

Since 2022, Athena Care has been providing optimum at-home care for those in need of medical services.

Chief Executive Officer Thea-Nicole Davis says that the basis of the company is prioritising comfort for patients.

“At Athena Care, we believe that every client should have access to the highest possible quality of life as they navigate living with illness, disease, or disability. Our service allows patients to be close to their loved ones while still receiving said care. This usually provides additional comfort and security for patients, Davis told Observer Online.

Athena Care is currently located in Kingston and St Andrew, Manchester and St James, with hopes to expansion in the future.

Dr Davis, a clinician with over sixteen years of experience, currently specialising in obstetrics, gynaecology and maternal fetal medicine, has been a consultant at the Mandeville Regional Hospital for the past 10 years actively pursuing a profession that offered her the perfect combination — surgery and the continuity of care and women’s health.

Fresh with her MBBS (honours in Pharmacology and Anatomy) in hand, she began her professional career in 2005 doing her internship at the Kingston Public, Victoria Jubilee and Bustamante Children’s Hospitals followed by her completing her residency at Victoria Jubilee and the University Hospital of the West Indies. In 2011, she added to her credentials her Doctorate of Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology (DM (OBGYN).

Her venture has come in handy for older citizens, especially those with chronic illnesses that need long-term medical attention.

“At Athena, we care for and support all ages, however, our target age group is 55 years and older. People who can no longer safely live on their own due to physical or mental limitations. For example, persons with mobility issues, cognitive decline associated with dementia, a recent stroke, or chronic health issues like diabetes, arthritis, or heart disease. Whether it is helping our clients to get back to living full lives by transitioning from hospital or short-term facility to home or providing long-term care, our concierge services offer quick and easy access to nearly anything you could need or want,” Davis said.

Since the launch of Athena Care, she has recorded notable success. However, as with everything in life, there are a few challenges.

“Our main challenge right now is that insurance companies do not cover the cost of receiving care at home. This means that many of our potential clients are faced with financial constraints which doesn’t allow them to use our service or it limits the level of service we can offer them. This usually results in significant decline in patient health,” she said.
